Comment(s): Potential sales: Belgium: Announced it will replace its F-16AM/BM fleet by purchasing 34 new aircraft with five manufacturers competing for the contract including Lockheed Martin with the F-35A. -> The US State Department informed US Congress it approved the possible sale through FMS for 34 F-35As including 38 engines (four spares) and other equipment on January 8, 2018. Germany: Requested information. Canada: Will run a new competition to replace its current fleet of Boeing CF-188 Hornets. Based on their originals plans 65 F-35As would be purchased. Finland: In the process of running a competition to replace its current fleet of F/A-18C/D Hornets. Israel: Announced to have signed a contract of 17 F-35A's (Adir) bringing its total order to 50 aircraft. Italy: It's first F-35B was accepted on Thursday January 25th. South Korea: Plans to buy an additional 20 F-35As Reuters reported on December 21, 2017. The country will buy 40 aircraft with the first aircraft to be build under LRIP 10 and to be delivered by December 31, 2018. Spain: The Spanish air force will need to replace their fleet of EF-18M/BM and F/A-18A Hornets, the Spanish navy its AV-8B+ Harrier IIs. Estimated are 45 - 50 aircraft for the air force and 12 - 15 for the navy. Currently unknown of one or two models will be purchased therefore listed as F-35A for the air force and F-35B for the navy. |
