Sep 29:

Boeing announced the sale of its AH-64E Guardian (22) and CH-47F (15) to India. The order fulfills the Indian requirement for an attack and heavy transport helicopter. India becomes the 14th country to operate the Apache and the 19th operator of the Chinook. (AH-64A/D models are designated Apache while the US Army chose to designate the AH-64E Guardian).

Edwards AFB, California home of the USAF Test Wing conducted air refueling certification between an Airbus A330MRTT and Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II. The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) end one of its five KC-30As to California were it conducted 69 contacts with the F-35A. During five contacts a total of 43.200 pounds of fuel was transferred. The AAR mission lasted 4 hours. The combined testing benefits the RAAF KC-30A Final Operational Capability while it also supports the development of the Lightning. Australia will purchase 72 F-35As. Two aircraft have been delivered to Luke AFB, AZ where they are operated in the pilot training program. Delivery to Australia is expected at the end of 2018.
 
Sep 27:

The French Air Force conducted its first airstrike inside Syria. Strike follows after reconnaissance flights started, see news September 7th. Till now the Armée de l'air only conducted air operations in Iraq.

Sep 25:

The KC-46A Pegasus made a succesful first flight today. The new tanker for the USAF took off from Paine Field and landed four hours later at Boeing Field in Seattle, WA. Within the tanker program test flights have been conducted by a B-767-2C. The KC-46A flight consisted of engine, flight control and environmental checks with the aircraft flown to a maximum altitude of 25.000 feet. The next stepts towards certification are post-flight checks after which real AAR flights can be conducted with USAF aircraft. The USAF plans to purchase 179 aircraft replacing the KC-135 Stratotanker.

The KC-46A Pegasus test and development aircraft consist of: EMD-1 and EMD-2 both B-767-2C. N462KC and N464KC both KC-46A.

The USAF command and Air Force Base (AFB) selection to operate the new air refueler.

Air Mobility Command. McConnell AFB, KS. 22nd Air Refueling Wing assigned 36 aircraft (replacing 44 KC-135R/T).

Air Education and Training Command. Altus AFB, OK. 97th Air Mobility Wing (formal training unit) assigned aircraft unknown.

Air National Guard. Pease ANGB, NH. 64th Air Refueling Wing (157th Air Refueling Wing) assigned  12 aircraft.

The 22nd ARW and 97th AMW should receive their first aircraft in fiscal year 2016 (1 October 2015 - 30 September 2016) with the ANG receiving its first aircraft in 2018.

Sep 22:

A US Navy F/A-18E based at NAS Lemoore, CA crashed.

Lockheed-Martin rolled-out the first F-35A for the Norwegian Air Force. The aircraft, AM-1, together with AM-2 will be flown to Luke AFB, AZ where they will enter the pilot training program.

Lockheed-Martin delivered a MC-130J Commando II to Kadena Air Base, Japan.

NH Industries (NHI) delivered the 15th NH90-NFH to the French navy. 27 helicopters known as Caiman have been ordered. The company announced in the same press release that in total 249 helicopters have been delivered. The NH90 is produced in two variant the Tactical Transport Helicopter (TTH) and NATO Frigate Helicopter (NFH).   

Sep 16:

Airbus D&S handed over the seventh A400M known at Atlas C1 to the Royal Air Force. Four of the transport aircraft are operated on daily operations by LXX squadron based at RAF Brize Norton. The other three are undergoing an UK specific installation of the Lockheed-Martin delivered two MC-130J Commando II. One aircraft flew to Kadena Air Base, Japan the other aircraft to Hurlburt Field, FL.

Sep 12:

The Eurofighter was selected by Kuwait with an agreement reached with Italy for the purchase for 28 aircraft.

Sep 11:

Helibras delivered two H225Ms to the armed forces of Brazil. One helicopter joined the Brazilian Air Force with the other being deliverd to the navy of Brazil.

Sep 10:

The fourth RAF Atlas C1 arrived at RAF Brize-Norton today.

Sep 9:

Boeing delivered the seventh CH-47F to the Royal Australian Army on August 10. The Chinook was delivered three weeks ahead of schedule. All helicopters will be operated by 5th Aviation Regiment, 16th Aviation Brigade and will eventually replace the six CH-47Ds in service.

Sep 8:

Airbus Defence and Space (Airbus helicopters) delivered the fourth Tigre HAD (EC665) to the Army of Spain. In total 18 HAD variants are to be delivered.

Sep 7:


The Dutch MoD will purchase 14 new CH-47Fs Chinook helicopters from Boeing. They will replace the CH-47D of which 11 are in service with the Defence Helicopter Command 298 squadron based at Gilze Rijen. The D-model of which two have been lost were acquired from Boeing (new) and from the Royal Canadian Air Force who withdrew the large transport helicopters and subsequently sold them to the Netherlands. Besides the CH-47D the RNLAF already operates six F-models of which four are assigned to 302 squadron based at Fort Hood, Texas. The other two CH-47Fs are used by 298 squadron.

The F-16s of the Iraqi Air Force made its combat debut with air strikes on IS targets on September 6th. Four F-16s were delivered in July 2015. Other F-16s are bases at Tucson conducting training within the 168th FW AZ ANG.

French president François Hollande announced that French Air Force will start reconnaisance flights over Syria from September 8th with the possibility to conduct air strikes. To date the French Air Force is one of multiple countries performing air strikes over Iraq.

Sep 4:

The second RC-135 Rivet Joint was delivered to the RAF seven months ahead of schedule. The aircraft will join 51 squadron based at RAF Waddington however due to maintenance work at its home base the aircraft landed at RAF Mildenhall. A third aircraft is on order. The purchase is part of the Airseeker program. The first River Joint was delivered in 2014 and engaged in operations over Iraq and Syria. The second aircraft incorporated 60 improvements based on experiences with the first aircraft which will undergo the upgrades in due course. The new aircraft can be deployed within a few weeks.

Sep 3:

During a training exercise at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune North Carolina a CH-53E from Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 464 experience a hard landing resulting in the loss of live of 1 Marine and 11 injured.

The first contract to equip the Slovak Air Force with the Sikorsky UH-60M was awared to the company. Contract is a foreign military sale (FMS) for four Black Hawks with other government equipment configured to customer requirments which should be completed (estimated) at May 31st, 2017.

Sep 2:

The Royal Netherlands Air Force - Defence Helicopter Command takes delivery of its 18th NH90NFH.


Lockheed-Martin delivered the first two F-35As to Hill AFB with ACC 388th FW and AFRC 419th FW receiving the first aircraft during a ceremony.
