Nellis Air Force Base located in Las Vegas,
Nevada houses on of the biggest wing within the United States Air Force.
The 57th Wing (excluding its nof flying units) is comprised of the USAF
Weapons School, 57th Operations Group, 57th Adversary Tactics Group and
the USAF Aerial Demonstration Squadron (Thunderbirds). Colocated at
Nellis AFB are their colleagues of the 422nd TES. The squadron is
subordinate to the 53rd Wing which itself is stationed at Eglin AFB,
Florida.
24th TASS (Tactical Air Support Squadron) is the latest squadron to be
operating out of the Nevada base.
Nellis Air Force Base, through the 57th Wing, host annual Red and Green
Flag exercises. In close proximity of the base the Nevada Test and
Training Range (NTTR) offers the based and Flag exercise participants a
large area to conduct air-to-air and air-to-ground missions.
With the 57th Wing overseeing all USAFWS operations not all of its
assigned squadrons are stationed at Nellis AFB. Its bomber and air
transport / air refuelling squadrons are operating from other Air Force
Bases around the country. 8th WPS currently has no own aircraft assigned
but borrows them from operational squadrons when required. |
